Default B16B w/ GSR crank

From what i understand the B16B is just a GSR/ITR block that's been destroked, so it should be relatively simple to make it into a 1.8L by simply swapping the crank. Is this true, or am i way off. Also, is it possible to do the same thing with a B16A? thanks

swap crank and rods and you have a b18c

with the 1.8 Crank and rods you should make more power than the ITR motor because you have the CTR pistons and that would bump up the compression.

seems like it would be easier to just get a C5 and throw on a thinner headgasket. Seeing how most C5 are only 600 bucks more.

the compression won't be as high as the B16B with the 1.8 crank

True. It will be higher.

So will this work with the B16A too, or is this just for the B16B?

B16A has a lower block, so you probably can't stuff a gsr crank in there. Also, a lot of the internals are different.

B16A and B16B have completely different blocks. B16B's are just a destroked B18C block with a B16A crank (if I remember correctly) and CTR Rods/pistons. The deck height on the B16B is 7mm taller than a B16A.

No........The B16B and B16A are the same height. The B18 blocks are 8mm taller than the B16 blocks. If your going to put a B18 crank in a B16 block then you have to get custom rods. Remember the difference in height!

The b16b IS taller than the b16a. It's a destorked b18c5. Also, there are b18 blocks that are the same height as the b16a.

See, this is where it gets confusing. Many people disagree about what a B16B actually is. From the research I've done, its a B18C motor destroked to a 1.6lt w/ near perfect R/S ratio. In turn, this allows you to put a B18C crank in and make it a 1.8 with different rods.

wrong.
B16A blocks are 7mm shorter than B18x blocks.
Here's some proof:

and here's a close up of the 7mm raised deck height on a P72 shortblock:

btw, the email address in that image is dead, so don't email it if you had the urge to.

I'm doing the same thing as we speak. Basically a b16b motor is a b18c block with a b16a crank in it. Your destroking the b18 to a b16, the b16a and b16b are not the same motor as everyone thinks. The only thing these motors share are bore and stroke measurements and thats why they are both 1.6Litres.

To make a b16b...you would need a b18A/B/C block...a b16a crank, b16b connecting rods or some aftermarket ones that are 144mm long and 19.5mm wide and then use whatever pistons you want. This would make a b16b.

I'm using a b18a1 block, an LS block, and my B16a crank with Crower rods and JE psitons, I'll be using my VTEC pr3 head aswell on the b18a block....I'll have an LS/VTEC B16B...lol

Well I kno most of you get this but some people just don't....hehe B16A/B17A = 263mm decks, B16B/B18A/B/C/B20B/Z = 270mm decks... Peace

Yes your right....the b16a and b17a cranks come on blocks that are 263mm and the other cranks are on 270mm block. But...just you understand....the b16b is a 270mm deck block with a 77mm stroke which is a b16a crank and 144mm rods...to get the displacement of 1.6 out of a 1.8 270mm block (destroked get it)....thats what a b16b is.
