hey guys,
im trying to find the best compatible solution for my project... quick background..
Project is my 83 CRX Track Car and i bought an EG to strip out with:
JDM B16A with Auto Gearbox and ECU.
Im going to mate this to a Y1 Gbox which is all good, and i've also done some research on converting the ECU to a manual designation which is cool too.
Im stuck on what I could/should do with the cams:
1: stick with the Auto Cams which will have decent mid range torque and a bit sloppy up top
2: swap stock B16A manual cams
3: swap stock B18C auto cams
4: swpa B18C ITR cams
1&2 aren't much of an issue - basically the same stuff right - close enough.
but i've heard that swapping B18C cams being either the AUto ones and especially B18CR cams i'll have to change Springs!
Some tell me thats not true - B16 and B18 springs are the same (even OEM springs are said to be same for both engines), others say that i'll need to change springs for B18CR cams and also just heard that B18CR cams have steeper ramp angles, and that with the B18C cams either B18C auto or the B18CR's i'll need to get another ECU, FPR etc etc...
Help guys - whats the general consensus on this stuff... what will work and what won't - should i just stick some B16A JDM manual cams in there and leave it? The car isn't going to be a record breaker so im building it on a budget - not fused if its going to get 140whp or 135whp because i've spend $300 on a set of cams and had to change ECU and half the internals... i want the EASY way out!
many thanks in Advance!
Mike

b18c1 cams are worse than b16a cams, better midrange, less topend. Save your money. Oops, i missed you're on auto cams right now... Hard to say whats better between b16a auto cams and b18c1 cams.
b18c5/b18c(r) cams will be a definite performane increase but i would change the springs to use them unless you keep the factory rev limit.
