Default b16a idles high

i just finished putting a 95 b16a into my 93 hatch..i fired it up for the first time, its not throwing any codes, but my idle is at like 2k and i went to adjust the ignition timing and the red middle mark on the crankshaft pulley is knowwhere near the pointer on the timing belt cover that its suppose to be aligned with..i turned the distributor all the way towards the front of the car (forward) to adjust it and it came closer to the middle red timing mark but not close enough? none of the other marks are able to line up with the timing belt cover either. i then turned the distrib. backwards and the 3 lines got farther away. and my idle went higher when i turned it back.. anyone know whats wrong or have this problem? any help would work..thanks.

Your timing will advance with rpm. You have to fix the idle problem first. I would just leave the distributor in the middle and set the idle first then the timing.

hmm i tried to replace the IACV to see if that would make a difference and it still is idling at like 1900rpms, anyone know how i would go about searching for vacumm leaks? any way too tell?

turn the screw down on the underside of the TB....it should have yellow paint on it...u can adjust the throttle plate with that......thats what i just did with my swap and it idle down..

checking for vacuum leaks is a good idea, but the throttle cable and rotor should be checked as well. there may be too much tension on the throttle cable, therefore keeping the plate open too much at idle. try adjusting the upper screw and lower nut. also, you mentioned that the timing was way off according to the crank pulley markings. it may be due to the 2k rpm idle, or possibly due to a cam gear problem. maybe the intake cam timing is off a tooth which could result in too much timing advance even with the dist. fully retarded. just a thought.

i had just replaced the cap and rotor.the throttle cable actually has a little slack in it..so i know its not that..i believe the timing is off because the car is at such a high idle and u are suppose to time the car at a lower idle...just don tknow why i got a high idle..
