b16 spun bearing..machine the crank??
i have a b16a with a spun rod bearing on cyl. 1...i know the crank can be machined and oversize bearings used but will that work fine? or should i try to locate a diff crank....
it depends on what happened to the crank. I've seen in some instances where a spun rod didn't damage the crank and everything was fine. No glazing whatsoever. It's probably cheaper to get it micropolished and find the right bearings to make the clearances within spec.
if i was to save the crank how would i buy just the one set of oversize bearings for that rod?? maybe ill take the crank to a machine shop and get their opinion too...although most around here do chevys and not many imports.
All machine shop will check your crank for you. Just tell them you want them to check the crank and get the correct size bearing. Before you assemble you should plasti gauge the bearing to make sure they gave you the correct size.
Give the machine shop you crank. They will measure your crank diameter for the rod. Give them the rod you plan to use. They will measure the big end rod diameter. Rod diam - Crank diam = bearing size to use. Order from Honda. Plastigauge the clearance to double check. If Ok, put the motor back together and have fun again.
