Default b16 problems

i put a b16a with 30,000 miles in my 91 hatch, now the car runs great, but vtech wont kick in when engine is cold, is this normal. and also i know the b16 has a reputation with head gasket failure, with oil leaking externally, but with 30k

Why are you getting on it when the engine is cold anyways? But to answer your question. Most VTEC ecus won't let VTEC engage while its cold.

i honestly dont know why, but the failure they have is not coolant internally, it is always externally, if you have ever seen a failed honda head gasket it always leaking out of the front corner of the engine by the distributer. but in my case it is oil. i have been at this shop for 2 years, and we see this problem all the time

you sure yer not mixing up a leaky cam seal or leaky vtec solenoid seal? cuz that's normally wut the culprit is when there's oil around the area you speak of...

curious too, what year are the four B16 engines that you changed the h/g's on? 89-91? 92+?
