Default B16 Idles real high

So my b16 idles really high when i start motor cold, it idles at about 3000 rpm until it warms up and then returns to 850, i think its my FITV, and i know there is a way to adjust it, i read that i can open it up and tighten the plunger in the FITV, but how do i know how tight to do it, does that sound right?

You can adjust it in half-turn increments untill you get it where you want. You don't even need to take it off. Just shine a light behind the TB, remove the driver's side screw and loosen the other. Swing the cover down and feel for the screwdriver notches in the plastic piece inside the FITV. Screw it in to lower fast idle RPM. A little grease will help seal the FITV cover.

No, Honda doesn't use any seal or sealant on the cover, that's just my personal reccomendation. The cover is just to keep dirt out. How well it seals won't affect IM vacuum. Make an adjustment when the car is off and if the next cold morning the car still idles too high then give it another half-turn.

If it's closed all the way, you'll probably have to give it some gas to start it when cold. The FITV setting shouldn't have any effect on the motor once it's warmed up. Keep in mind that your ECU thinks you have a FITV that is letting extra air in when cold. The computer will supply extra fuel when the motor is cold to compensate for the added air supplied by the FITV. If the valve doesn't let air in when cold, that will create a rich condition until the motor warms up. The rich condition may cause missing, struggling, dying, etc. with cold starts.

I don't know how many revolutions it takes from closed to open the correct amount. I'd say open it about two full turns to start and see how it does. When the FITV is not open far enough, problems first start to arise just before the engine reachs normal operating temp. The idle speed lowers as the valve closes and when it closes too soon, the motor will struggle and/or die. So, if the motor struggles after the fast idle goes down but before the motor is fully warmed up, you need to open it some more.
