B16 CRX Si - Problems with both PW0 and PR3 ECUs, Code 6 and Code 0, Bad Chip?
I've got an 89 CRX Si with a B16 swap. The engine came with a PW0 ECU, but I've had a Code 6 (ECT) ever since I did the swap last spring. Had problems starting of course, and also was hitting the cold rev limit. I've replaced the ECT sensor, checked all the wiring, and followed the troubleshooting flowchart from the EF Service Manual, pages 6-42 and 6-43. The results indicated a bad ECU (not too surpising considering the huge dent in it when I got it), so I bought a new one earlier this week.
I got a socketed PR3 with a stock chip, and once installed, I now get a code 0, which indicates a bad ECU, or a bad chip. The car runs, but is stuck in limp mode, won't rev above 3000 or so RPM. I pulled the chip, and the car of course ran in limp mode that way... I was just confirming for myself that the car would run without the chip and forced into limp mode.
I don't really have a question, just wanting confirmation that my diagnosis is correct. I just want to get all this straight and consider all the possibilities before I contact the seller. Am I correct in thinking that a replacing the chip in the socket should fix the problem?
