Default b16 backfiring crazy

Ok, i put a b16 2nd gen in a 93 eg. Just realized that I had the firing order incorrect fixed it and got all my power back. Only thing is that it is backfiring now. Around 4k rpms its ridiculous, sounds like a machine gun. I did notice that the intake and exhaust cams aren't straight across anymore Theres like 1-2 teeth difference between the cam gears being straight across. Could that be doing it? I'm running outta ideas, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well since cam timming and ign. timming is ok, then you could check your ecu, what ecu are you running?
have a cat?

if your cat is hollow and you are running rich then you will definitely be backfiring.

If your cat is hollow and you have a OBD-II, you car will run like ****. Unless its OBD-I or 0, you need to disable the secondary 02 sensor...this of course is assuming you're OBD-II.

im running obd 1, im just wonderin if bent valves would be doing this. I kinda had the timing off like 7 teeth before and im not sure if the valves are bent or not. i know i know do a compression/leakdown test. I just haven't gotten to it, or have the gauge and ****.

bent valves wouldnt cause a backfire, they would cause aweful idle and bogging, loss of power. But if it happens only at a certain RPM, and its not VTEC related, then start replacing things on your ignition system. Cap and rotor, hopefully its not the dist. I doubt it is. Change the Ignition coil too.....

well heres the thing that really gets me. for the firing order i know its 1342 going clockwise. But on my old d16z6 i tried that and it didn't work but when i had it 1243 it ran fine. on my current b16 if i have them as 1342 it backfires crazy, if i switch them to 1243 which i had it, it boggs at all rpms, and has no power. I drove 100 miles this way, just no power, no misses, w/ occasional back fires, and its a gas hog and can smell raw gas. So i dunno whats going on. I changed cap and rotor, didn't help any.

debating if it is worth taking the head off and looking at the valves, and spending $75 to replace head gasket

the firing order is indeed 1342....so change it back. Re-check your cam gears to make sure they are at zero, check all your vacuum lines to your intake mani. and go over your ignition system about three times to make sure you didnt over look anything. I really think this is an ignition problem. check your wires for impedence and do a compression check. That should tell you alot.

Well I'm just a genius and a retard. I figured out my problem. I was running vp racing fuel 110 octane gas, which i looked at there webpage last night and found out, yea it was leaded gas. So I drained it and put some 94 octane in and boom, shes running fine now
