Default b16 or b18 into a Sol... need ideas.

******* hell. i lied. im not going h22. its a waste, i dont feel like cutting up my chassis just to get things like shifter cables working.... it seems like too much of a hassle, already ontop of the axles breaking and the low oil pan.

anyway-

i think im gonna go b16 or b18. for $3000... what can i do??
since this is going in either an S or SI del sol, 3000 dollars needs to include- mounts, radiator, vafc, etc. every little part.

im open to alot of ideas... b16/gsr hybrids, high compression, whatever.

TIA.

i would go with a b18, becuase of the torue and the option to go with an ls/vtec later.

good point but isnt the ls slower off the bat?
also, this may seem silly, but do they make a red crinklecoat valvecover for it?

i would go b18c1, that little bit of extra torque will help you in the long run because the sol is a heavier car than most people think. with a fairly simple turbo setup 300 whp is not that hard to attain. The ls/vtec is nice for the track but is kind of a handful for a daily driver. To me the b18c1 is just the best all around platform you can do almost anything with it, this is why i one in my sol.

what year? and what model s or si? the vtec motors are almost a direct drop in with the si, the s requires more wiring.

im planning on picking up an SI.. which will have all the vtec and whatnot..

so you guys reccomend a b18c1 (ls) and then either swap on a vtec head or a turbo kit down the road?

sounds good to me.

only thing.. do they make a red valve cover for the ls?

Alright first, the B18C1 is a GSR engine, not an LS engine. Second, you can get red valve covers for the LS engine off of ebay, but they say DOHC VTEC and would thus make you a ricer.

Now to the discussion at hand. For cheap speed, I'd get an LS motor (B18B1) and a turbo. For an all motor setup, I'd start with the B18C1 and go from there.

But if I were doing this, I'd just get a Del Sol VTEC which already has a B16 in it, and then go LS/VTEC.

i dont think i could pull off a ls turbo for my budget.

i think i could barely pull off a ls vtec for my budget.

i dont want to swap in a ls and call it a day though... i rather swap in a b16 and have the vtec.

For $3000 you can get an LS and be well on your way to a turbo setup. If you aren't willing to do this, then I think your best bet would be a second gen B16A.

While doing the swap, I'd go ahead and put in a good header and intake. Personally I'd put in some CTR cams and run the DIY ITB setup. It all comes down to what goals you have.

hrm. im thinking-

b16, adjustable cam gears, performance cams, good header, and itb's

can you guys reccomend some good "bang for the buck" parts- as in cheap gears, cams and itb's that are inexpensive, but offer good performance. i know there is a middle range that isn't too expensive, and aren't pieces of crap.

as for the itb's... can i put filters on each of the pipes? i love the idea of having them on a daily driver... but dont want to risk sucking up... everything.
