Default B series engine Q.

Did a quick search and looking online I'm debating which engine to go for.. briefly spoke to the guy thats going doing it and sourcing everything and pricing up a b18 SiR swap (JDM engine).

Looking at a wiki figures I'm getting these:

JDM B18C
SiR-G/GSR
VTEC
Found in:
95-98 JDM Honda Integra SiR/SiR II (DB8, DC2)
98-99 JDM Honda Integra SiR-G (DB8, DC2)
Identification: Black valve cover with dual runner intake manifold
Red Line: 8200 rpm
Rev-Limit: 8484 rpm- 8550 rpm (*For some only, most newer model SIR/SIR-G cut off at 8254 rpm)
Power: 132.39 kW (180 PS; 178 bhp) @ 7200 rpm & 128 lb·ft (174 N·m) @ 6200 rpm
Displacement: 1,797 cc (109.7 cu in)
Compression: 10.6:1
Bore: 81 mm (3.2 in)
Stroke: 87.2 mm (3.4 in)
ECU code: P72
VTEC Engagement @ 4500 rpm
Transmission Y80 (with optional LSD)

and then for a b16b (ek9):

B16B (Type R)
VTEC
Found in:
1996–2000 JDM Civic Type R[EK9]JDM
Displacement: 1,595 cc (97.3 cu in)
Compression: 10.8:1
Bore: 81 mm (3.2 in)
Stroke: 77.4 mm (3.0 in)
Rod/Stroke ratio: 1.84:1
Rod Length: 142.42 mm (5.6 in)
Power: 185 hp (138 kW) @ 8200 rpm & 118 lb·ft (160 N·m) @ 7500 rpm
Redline: 8500 rpm
Rev-limit: 9000 rpm
Transmission:S4C With Helical LSD (4.4 final drive, dual-synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears)
VTEC engagement 6200 rpm
ECU code: PCT
ECU Socket Type: OBD-2A(1996-1998 models) / OBD-2B(1999-2000 models)
Note: This engine uses the same block as the Integra Type R (B18C5), which is taller than the B16a block (by approx 17 mm), but with a crank the same stroke as the b16a. It uses longer rods to accommodate for this, which is why the Rod/Stroke ratio is higher than a standard B16.

=======================

the b16b seems the better engine to go for? Obviously there not going to be massive difference with various bolt ons, mani, mappable neptune ecu, full system etc but what are opinions on the best one to go for, bang for buck?
probably asked a thousand times but...

Also just to add would be running 4:7 final drive with short 4th and 5th.

Torque might not seem much but you want as much as you can get.
Search b16 vs b18 and you will get the picture.
B18c w a 4.7 FD is a fun car! I have one.

No replacement for displacement.
Get the b18

go with the bigger motor. b16b rods are hard to come by, so i would put that into account.

b16's kinda suck from a daily driving standpoint. the small amount more torque from the 1.8 makes it so much better.

Thats answered my question anyway.. Most of the lads round this way run high spec b18s, a k20 eg saloon, k24 ek hatch, big spec b16bs.. lot of honda heads and competition out there.

I'd be happy to see 200bhp with bolt ons and see where i go from there

Id go with 1.8l if youre going n/a. I wouldnt personally waste money on a b16b unless youre trying to make a ctr clone. Now, if youre going turbo route, id personally go with a b16a due to the great rod to stroke ratio. You can turn higher rpms without as much pressure on your cylinder walls. Yes, more torque is nice... to an extent. People forget that we are driving/racing 2000lbs fwd cars. Which means too much torque equals alot of tire spin. Fwd cars suck for trying to hook up and go but seem to make great interstate pullers due to the high rpm horsepower.

Why not a B18C ITR engine if you're looking at B16B as the ITR engine is the best of both worlds compared to either of the engines you listed and probably the same price as the B16B.
