b-series eating up starters
Alright, so my buddy has a fully built b20 stroked high comp and some other modifications. Here is what happens starter starts to go, we put a new one in its good for like a month the progressively gets worse, one day might start 10/10 then 8/10 then 4/10 etc. I was wondering what would cause it to eat through starters we are on number 3 could it be a wiring issue or something with the starter and flywheel? thank you
if you have high compression you may need a high torque starter. A factory starter will get eaten up fast if your motor has high compression. Its alot of stress and strain for it to turn your motor over.
If your eating up starters but don't have a short or the incorrect voltage at the starter, then this is most likely your problem. Any engine I have built with high compression has needed a high torque starter. Did you guys do the swap? If so, did it start fine before? Check the voltage at the starter? Voltage while cranking?
It has gotten to the point where the starter no longer cranks. The previous owner did a number on the wires in the dash so there is a possibility of a short, however the car has seemed to go through the previous two starters in the same fashion. I'll have to check the voltage readings tomorrow at work. I am reluctant to go out and buy a high torque starter until I am sure I diagnosed the problem correctly. Also as a reminder to 98integra: na all the way.
