Hey Guys and Gals looking for a lil info here.
I have a '90 Integra GS running an LS/Vtec high compression mill. Recently a small problem has begun to occur at wide open throttle. When I'm hard on the acceleration and cross over into vtec with my foot to the floor my engine coughs and a plume of black smoke goes out my tailpipeand vtec pretty much shuts off.
After checking around for proper wiring etc I swapped out my b&m fuel pressure guage for one from a honda dealership. They let me borrow it for 3 days. During this time I hammered on the gas to watch for any type of lean condition but with the honda guage in... car drove like a dream, accelerated like a rocket and was basically back to the way I'd imagined my engine should be. At a loss for what could be the cause I put my b&m guage back in and gave the honda guage back. Immediately the problem returned. I have since taken out the b&m guage and replaced it with a banjo bolt from a 'g2 teg and now all my power is back again.
When the guage was in the system it read the correct fuel pressure. I'm going to go and get a warranty new guage but looking for an explanation on why a guage would cause this problem. (hopefully a new guage will fix what's going on)
