It looks rather like a Phantom Grip. People say anything from POS to better than sliced bread. I assume it works the same, puts spring loaded pressure on the spider gear shaft. No-one says it works as well as a "real" limited slip, some say it damages the diff. Assuming that one works, the same, it's still a crapshoot. Quaife is still warenteed forever, with any usage. The Phantom Grip may damage the diff and many report reduced function over time.

With all the motor swap people, I'm guessing you can find decent transmissions and diffs fairly cheap. My understanding is it hurts the shaft, and possibly the spider gears or the case. The ring and pinion should be fine. I don't know much about the D-series transmissions. Are the diff cases interchangeable between various versions? If they are, you can probably get usable diffs from otherwise junk transmissions and ones no-one wants like the HF or other tall geared transmissions.

So long as you can do the diff setup yourself, it really is a cheap thing to try. Ask them about the Phantom Grip and see what they have to say versus it. Could be interesting.

the only difference between diffs that i know about is the bearing sizes vary, right now I have a POS 4 speed POS tranny that i would be more then willing to take the diff out of and swap it into a Si 5spd. Not sure if the ring gear is different but if it is thats not a hard swap

I used one of these last year in my 400whp turbo streetcar and i had no problems. To be completely honest with you there is a right and a wrong way to install it
the instructions say mill the gears down till you can see the etching of the numbers or writing or somethin *i dont remember exactly* ..i used my chop saw and put a nice x-hatch in it. If you just install the unit with out milling the gears down your going to have probs

i wouldnt think of it that way... i mean with the diffs... if the diff blows... specifically the spider gears... the pieces can fly around a ruin other stuff in the tranny (stress may) just something to keep in mind as well

Thats a thin chance pieces of the spider gears will travel all the way to the gear rails you would have to seriously break somethin in the diff for that to happen

oh i fully agree... thats y i stressed "may."

im the type of person who always thinks about the worst case scenario and hopes for the best... i dont like when people think nothing can happen and then all of a sudden does and more than they expected

if it blows and destroys my first 4 gears then that more of a reason to build a ZC/Si hybrid tranny
