Axle replacent Q.
Im replacing right side axle and bought a replacement, but the axle nut that is on the car right now is 32mil and the replacement axle nut is 30mil. Did I get the wrong axle or is it okay? Also when I insert the axle back into the trans casing shout it slide right in or will it take some pushing to get it in?
Thanks.
Thanks.
well when I got the axle I got the 30mil socket to remove the nut, but when I went to remove the axle nut on the car i found out that it was 32mil. The axle on the car broke so I took the axle out of hte trans case, but the outer part is still connected to the hub. I tried inserting the the new axle in to the casing and it goes in but not all the way up against the casing. That is what I wanted to know if I got the right axle and how hard it is to get it to get the axle up against the casing.
You need to push it in further. Take a 2x4 piece of wood and hammer it in. This will help not to damage the threads. Or pull and push on the axle. I do this, but make sure you do not pull out to far. The problem is the c-clamp on the axle needs to be seated in the diff. So one of the 2 options will work. I would go for the first one if you never have changed an axle before.
but that nut sounds fishy to me. Put the axle in the hub first, just to make sure you got the right one. If it fits in the hub correctly then put in the tranny.
thanks for the info, now i just need to know if the axle nut size makes a different. I watched as afriend replaced the driver side before, now Im trying it on my own. The replacement on the drivers side came with a 32mil nut but the passenger side this time came with a 30mil.

The axle broke where the outer CV boot is, where it is at the hub. The boot is riped and I just pulled out the axle and inner part that goes into the tranny case. The outer part is still on the hub. thats why I'm not sure if i got the right axle because I got a 30mil sockret when I bought the new axle. Then I went to remove the nut that was when I found out that the old axle nut is a 32mil, which I don't have a socket for. That is why I cant take out the old part of the axle that is in the hub. So I cant put the new one in to see if it will fit and if the 30mil axle nut will work. It a reman axle. not a honda axle.
OK just get the old one out tomorrow or tonight. Post when you put the new one in the hub for fitment. I think you may have the wrong one. I forget the different nut sizes off the top of my head, i want to say 34 and 36, not sure, anyway fit it and let us know.
