axle nut
I replaced the axle the other day, then proceeded to deliver pizza that night. A few orders into the night, I realized that I didn't torque the axle nut down or stake it. I continued my shift of about 70 miles. Nothing bad happened and it hasn't loosened up. I can't see how it could pull out unless the whole hub gets disconnected, and if it does, I don't think I'll care about whether the axle holds or not. So what's the deal with the ridiculously high torque? I had to take that **** to a tire shop with air tools and he even had to break out the big **** and fight with it to get it off.

Re: axle nut (turbolshatch)
If it isn't that tight after a couple hundred miles it could fry a bearing from being loose.... Happened on my LS I hit it with a weak impact and it didn't tighten up enough so I lost a bearing. Also, the longer it sits on there the more pain in the *** it is to get off.

Re: axle nut (tegraLS97)
It wasn't on there very long at all. I just swapped in my motor a month or two ago, and the guy torqued it to spec. I live in so cal so its not like road salt or anything, thats just the normal torque for it. It's the same as any other FF car I've experienced. So its no surprise that it was so tight, I was just wondering the reason for it and any possible problems with not torquing it.
My questions were answered more or less. Thanks.
