I use an air hammer with a blunt nose bit.

heat it up cherry hot and use an air hammer. Or if its really stubborn take the knuckle off and put it in the press

^nope.

just try an air hammer/chisle first. I have a a cheap one and it seems to get out ones that a hammer wont touch with ease. Sometime you have to just hammer away for a minute before it moves but it beats taking it apart and pressing it. I use a pointed tip though, so it sits right in the dimple.

also soak both back and front with some PB or WD or something

the ball joint is ****. just back the nut off a few turns to protect the threads and beat the **** out of the bump on the side with your 2lb hammer. l lot of times it only takes 2-3 hard hit even on old ones.
