AWD wagon transmission problems. Help!!
I have a '89 Civic wagon with the AWD transmission. My stock transmission blew up at 222k and I replaced it with a lower mileage used one. I am currently having 3 weird problems.
1. When the car is turned off and left in gear, it will roll if I am on any sort of incline....even a very small incline. It rolls at a very slow and steady pace. The engine is NOT turning over while it rolls. I do not believe the clutch to be slipping because it is new and does not slip when driving. To me, this suggests that gears inside the gearbox are slipping.
2. Crazy vibrations from the rear in second gear. I thought that one of the U-joints from the driveshaft had failed (this happens frequently) but upon inspection, they were all good. Could be a viscous coupler issue or maybe the rear diff mounts are rediculously worn.
3. The AWD transmission has the option to be in 2 or 4 wheel drive. There is a lever on the transmission that allows you to switch. The lever worked great on my first transmission. On this one, it works fine in 4wd, but when I switch the lever to 2wd and then go to drive the car, I have NO GEARS. Let the clutch out and it is as if I am in neutral.
These three problems may or may not be related to each other. Any thoughts are appreciated?
