Default Autometer Tach Jumpy After 5k RPM?

I installed a Autometer Tach on my 91 B18C1 EF hatch yesterday. I thought everthing was working fine, today I took the car to 6k and after 5k the tach goes crazy and jumps around, but the stock tach is fine.

Heres how i hooked it up:

White and red----> Cig lighter (I don't care that the autometer light is always on)
Black--------------> Ground (on metal radio bracket)
Green-------------> Blue wire near Distributor

Any ideas on what is causing this?.....maybe a sign the ignitor is going bad since the autometer is more "sensitive"
