Automatic transmission lock ?
Hi guys,
My mother is having some serious trouble with the release of her automatic shifter. You know, when pushing the brake pedal on an automatic car, you can hear unlocking and then can move the shifter. How easy is it to by-pass this lock ? I know entering a key into the hole on the console works, but i'd like it to be permanent to avoid using a key eachtime.
Hopefully I made myself clear, my english isn't that good.
Thanks a lot,
Patrick

I keep my lock on permanently and have a blank honda key that I use to release it, that way when I want the extra security, I just lock that key in my glove box, car theft is prevented in layers, no one item will stop a good thief.
Just an idea for you anyway.

Yes. Everything works perfectly. We even hear the "click" of the lock when pressing the brake pedal. It just aleatory stop working.

If the soleniod is clicking, i'd pull off the center console and see what the holdup is. Must be something under there, should be easy to see.

There's a big *** solenoid in there. Mine went bad. Looked at the dealerprice and **** a brick. I thought about going to the junkyard, but after I took it out I decided I don't need it there after all.
I believe it's called the shift lockout solenoid.

This is exactly my case atm.
I'll open the console up tomorow. I do not have the car during the week, that why I asked.
