Default auto meter tach reading

Anyone have a distributor go out and wreck the tach?

I got a new distributor as it had the red dust and I was throwing codes relating to the distributor. But the new distributor in and the codes are gone.

However my autometer tach no longer wants to work. I hooked it up directly off the blue wire coming from the distributor no dice. Hooked up another one I had from another car same wiring and it works. I'm guess my autometer is dead?

You mean those 5" Monster tachs from 1998? I hope you know those tachs are as RICEY as Altezza style tail lights and aluminum trunk spoilers in this day and age. No...its not old skool....it's rice.

Sounds like an Autometer issue. Not a Civic or a Honda issue. Especially since we have NO CLUE what car this is even for.

Sounds like you answered your own question.

Now how did you know I have Altezza style lights on my car. Your good. I have the sales receipt from the previous owner the tach was actually purchased in 2003 so your a few years off.

This is a track only car, gutted with an h22 swap. If the tach works I'm going to keep it in the car and if its big... great the better I can just quick glance at it.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever had the problem of a distributor going out and possibly frying an after market tach. So if anyone has let me know and then i will know for certain this is possible.

Obviously I'll be tach hunting shortly I just want to know if that is the possible cause. Check engine light came on same time tach quit working.

If want a cleaner look, you can grab the blue tach wire that is found @ the gauge cluster. For the money, why don't you just get an Autometer shift light. It does come with rpm shift pills. That looks way better than a "2003" monster tach. LOL

Tried the wire by the firewall and on the cluster there must be a short someplace in the wiring. So instead of trying to sort that out I just grabbed the line of the distributor while I was testing with a known good tach.

I'd like to see RPM when I'm on the track.
