Default Auto --> Manual...

I know that this has been talked over, but most posts I've read really don't get into what I want to know. I guess my most important question is "is this a reliable thing to do". Will it cause problems? Does it all just depend on who's doing it? If so, who should I get to do it - dealership or any recommendations for someone in FL? What is the average cost for such a task? Thanks for the input.

Find some friends and research and do the work yourself. You never know about changes such as that. That way when you do it you at least know that you have do it right.

Or sell the LX and get a manual.

Edit: Costs vary, the trannies can be bought for around 250 used. I believe that you need a manual ECU as well, another 200. I would get a EX guage cluster with a built in tach 150. Labor to install it, cut the hole for the shifter linkage, mounting and all sheesh 500+.

You should do it, I've got it done on my gen 5 prelude which used to be sport shift. You gotta find someone who knows how to do engine swaps and things of that sort. I don't really find any problems in my car. I'm using a 94 vtec tranny on a 00 lude for shorter gear ratio. only thing I'm missing is a manual radiator to cool the tranny down and I think I need to put in some gear oil so I can shift into gears better. Other than that do it you'll like it much better. But if I were you I'd save up a lil more and drop a b20, b18c1, or h22 and the tranny change should already come with that. My homeboy paid about 3g'z with an LS w/ tranny swapped into a 96 civic coupe. I paid about 2700 for my tranny swap.

Kurupt, you have got to get a tranny cooler hooked up to that thing. You will have some serious issues if you don't!!!

no offense or anything but why did you waste the money buying the SS only to convert it to 5-speeds? its not like a 5-speed 5th gen lude is hard to find...

anyway - did you do the gauge pod also?

I wasn't expecting to have my tranny blow on me. I was about to do the level 10 thing but I don't think those will ever truly be as fast as five speed. And plus I one of those lucky punk kids whose parents bought them the car and I had no choice in getting a stick cuz it was their enz that they were spending. I also didn't want to trade my car in after cuz sentimental value came into mind, first car, been through a lot with it, custom blue paint, body kitted out.

i paid about $1300 for everything including some flywheel and clutch hardware from the dealer. that is around what anyone is going to pay...it can go upwards more if you do a good clutch and a lighter flywheel or something. i know the vp's son of america! he gets me good deals on what i need. he is in the process of building a nice show/go car civic...96-99 coupe. he has his old tranny and linkage and stuff out and i could probably get them for a good price. he has no use for them anymore...do you have a b-series or the stock single cam??? let me know.
