Default ATTN: all vtec experts!!!

it has been a month now and I still have no vtec since installing my ls/vtec. I have taken apart the plumbing and cleaned it (made sure of no obstruction), I have replaced the solonoid twice, and I have even gone threw Kamin's "vtec trouble shooting guide" https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=164863 I fixed several problems but am still throwing a MIL 21 I have only two options in my opinion left a vtec wiring harness obd-1, and try a different ecu. Has anyone ever delt with anything this bazzare before?

P.S. All of the wiring is going in the right spots needed.

thanks
mike

when you put your motor together did you forget to put in that little "vtec" piston in the dead center of the head back in? they are just so small, sometimes people forget to put them back in.

if you pull the filter off the solenoid (the 3 bolts on the top of solenoid) its a bronze cylinder with a small indent in it

Kamin is correct about the piston in the vtec solnoid aswell, but i was refering to the piston under your middle cam cap that goes over both the intake and exaust cam. there is a little cylinder looking thing under that that is essential for vtec. very small and easy to lose.

are you talking about the two pistons that go in every rocker arm or the intake and exhaust shaft orfices located near the timing belt?

I think he's referring to the dowel/o-ring in the center of the head, like psi420 said. Vtec won't engage if its missing.

Well, yes and no.

Some heads come with them and some don`t, some run vtec fine w/o it and others don`t run at all, it`s a mystery as far as I`m concerned....

That orfice is to control oil flow to the head and valve train only. it has nothing to do with v-tec operation.

I put the piece in and nothing... but then I tried swapping ecu's with my buddys SI and his car threw the same code 21. We have used a p28 in his car before and have had no problems so I am convinded it was just the ecu the whole time...

thanks
