Default assessing parts condition...

Is there a way to determine the condition of my oil and water pumps? I've got them both off...I'm rebuilding the motor. I'd like to know if I should replace them or not.

How many miles are on the engine. If its high mileage then change them while you have the engine apart.

high mileage is in the eye of the beholder... I don't know the miles on my motor.... I'm guessing around 70k.

If you are unsure of the mileage, and or think the mileage is 70K, then I would advise replacing them.

Whats a couple hundred dollars extra for peace of mind of your motors vital components.

I agree. You should also consider when the engine would be rebuilt next. If you don't replace them now and down the road they fail it would cost you more money.

I am planning on changing them both...good advice. I still would like to know if there is anything specific I can check for to determine if they are worn (the next time I'm faced with a similar situation)
