Did something hit the caliper to cause it to be out of spec? That may have caused the rip. I would hope there is evidence of other damage or wear if the entire caliper is being replaced. OR they are just giving you a new caliper in case there is wear from dirt. The boots and even the pins are pretty cheap and often replaced. I wouldn't complain if its covered under warranty. You may be lucky and just have a good dealer.
It may be related to another post about warranty work and how much a dealer gets for labor (50% of cost) and parts (100%).
Yes, brake calipers can be rebuilt. However, it's a real BITCH, so you KNOW the dealer's not gonna bother with that. There are plenty of places that rebuild calipers on a regular basis, and usually, they want your caliper in exchange to give you the best deal. I think front GSR calipers with core exchange are about $115 for the fronts from a place near Boston.
yeah, i thought it was because some dirt may have gotten past the boot
i thought it was just a matter of taking the old boot out, and sliding the new one in.
also, do you guys think the piston/boots/seals come pre-assembled from honda? i mean, theyre replacing the entire caliper, but wouldnt it come in peices?
anyway. it should be done by tomorrow....so i'll see what they did
