Anyway to run/fix this without a line bore?
I saw a similar thread with the same groove on the cam journal however mine is slightly worse and nobody would say the affects of this ridge, the ridge sits higher than the rest of the journal it looks like it would line up with the empty space on the camshaft as you can see in pics on this thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-motor-naturally-aspirated-44/do-i-need-line-bore-my-cam-journals-3037429/ however I wanted to know how safe it is to run and people's personal experience with this issue? Is it common?
If it were my car id carefully use some really fine sandpaper (1000-1500 grit wet and dry) or a dremel and remove the raised ridge and just clean up the rest of the journal. Might be worth finding ou what caused the ridge in the first place. looks like your cam shaft has shifted.
im guessing someone before me had the timing belt or caps down tighter than spec, have you had personal experience with this, should i just try to knock it down then plasti-gauge it and check if its within specs? some people are saying they have ran heads like this with no problem
That is a wear pattern from the groove of the camshaft snout. See below. I wouldn't worry about it.
If I remember correctly, the cam caps at this end has a groove which is fed by the groove on the cam and this is designed to supply oil to the cam seal.
