i know this isnt the place and we have posted on various sites but nothing has came up so if anyone could help it would be much appriciated...! my friend has a 97 gsx he just recently completed his 6 bolt swap.... everything is fine idles nice and such but when he engages the clutch there is a rubbing (metal on metal) noise coming from the tranny/transfercase area. anyone have a clue what this could be??? as i said before we are in need of help and i know this isnt really the place to look but we are desperate and in need of getting the thing running soon.... t.i.a

 

Hydraulic or Mechanical clutch?

Can you put the car into gear?

 

hydro clutch and yes we can put it in gear!

 

I'm going to take a stab and say TOB. This is a problem I have on my other car when you push the clutch in it squeals like a little girl. Only diff is I have a mechanical clutch.

 

3 others have mentioned that guys from dsmtalk so i think we are gonna check that.... anyone else have any ideas????

Just a few other things to look for...

Pressure plate bolts are torqued to spec...
Flywheel is torqued to spec...
TOB is in good working condition
Is the release fork working properly?
Has the flywheel been cut? Is it shimmed?

Just check it all out and chances are it is something stupid....
Just too bad 2G DSMs ******* SUCK to pull the tranny on.

 

Well the added difficutly here is that hte GSX being all wheel, there has to be some weirdo transfer assembly in the transmission... right?

the transfer case

 

Yah. Xfer case comes off with 5 bolts though not a big deal. Check the fluid level in that while it is off of the car.

Chances are its something in and around the clutch itself... transfer case wont make noise unless the car is in gear and moving. Output shaft does not spin when in neutral.
