Default anyone know anything about cats??

I am thinking about gutting my cat...but im not sure...does it give you good hp difference i have the d16y6 1.6 sohc vtec in a 94 honda civic.(cold air, 1 1/4 piping, short shifter,) or should i get a high flow cat or maybe just a striaght pipe...and if i do gut the cat is it going to sound really bad because i herd some cars with no cat and i wanted to throw up...???

I know that cats don't like water. Well I would definitely go with a high flow cat because gutting is like the straight pipe and there is a drop in torque and since your motor is a single cam I would get the high flow. Yes the sound is pretty nasty especially a straight pipe with a stock muffler. Carsound or Catco should be a good choice.

ph34r Carsound!!!

I just got mine on today, and the power I lost gutting my cat is back. Sounds great with or without the silencer in my Tanabe RM now.

It will be loud. If a CAI is the extent of your engine mods, you won't reap any performance benefits.

1) Your car won't benefit much

2) I'm not a tree hugger, but for a daily driver you should run a cat

3) Even if you gut it, you are doing more harm than good. The drastic change in diameter in the piping will cause the exhaust to swirl around in the empty cat, actually decreasing your exhaust flow/hp.
