Alternator problems w/my 98 ITR
I'm having problems with my alternator.I went and purchased a new alternator and my car still dies after it kills the battery.I mean WTF!.I replace the part and it does the same damn thing it doesn't charge.
Has anybody else had this problem and what did you do to fix it.I'm totally stumped.I was soooo pissed when my car died after i put the new alternator in and it died.
I mean i was on a two lane road, one lane each way and it started sputtering and just died and i had to push my car off the side of the road in the dirt. Then had to get it towed. Then i also had to just have my coilovers lowered then it was B*tch to get on the tow truck from being soo low and in the dirt.
So somebody please help before i just shoot my car.
Thanks
Justin
hmm very strange problem. are you sure the battery is dead after a few minutes with the alternator not charging it? because the only time your motor actually uses the battery is power to the starter. if your motor is running for a few minutes, it MIGHT be an ignition problem, i could be wrong though. good luck man
, i'd be annoyed also

My '98 ITR had the same problem. The alternator was bad which caused it to kill batteries. It may be time for a new alternator.
Perform the test in the Helm's manual for the alternator.

Well i did check it out with a multi meter.I checked at the Alternator not the battery. And it was not charging at all even with a new alternator from Honda.
I will check the Harness to see if there is a problem there.Or if it's a short in the O2 sensor.
But thanks for all of your suggestions i appreciate it very much.
How have you tested the electrical system??? If you need more help, it would help out alot as to what tests have been done... A standard AVR test is the most basic of tests for you're electrical system...
If you do not have a dry cell battery load tester... I can still help you with the aid of a multi-meter... Let me know...

Well i found out what the problem was.
It wasn't the Alternator
It wasn't the O2 sensor
It wasn't the Harness
It was the Damn alternator brackets. I powder coated them and i guess it was not getting enough ground. So i ran a ground from the alternator mount the to the driver side engine mount. No more charging problem.
But i do have one more problem that just came up.When i'm at idle and i blip the throttle, when the RPM's come back down it dies.I'm guessin it's the TPS,anyother suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks again
