just installed a new belt and the alternator is now screaming........i loosened it a bit until the noise went away but now the belt is too loose.......any ideas

do i need to lube the alternator

 

do you have the right belt on it? i don't see why your alternator bearings would start making noise just from changing the belt. adjust your belt so that when you can only twist the belt about 90 degrees.

If it doesn't slip when lights & stuff are turned on, then it's not too loose.

 

try a putting on a little belt dressing..

 

didnt help......any other ideas...

 

I wish honda put an acual tensioner on the alternator instead of the arm tensioner.

Loosen it agian to where you had it where the noise stopped and then try tightening it little by little till you get that point right where it wants to make noise but doesn't it is a really big pain in the *** but worth a try

 

im trying that ...its seems like its working...........its kind of the mind set thing of worry if its not tight enough u know

 

Maybe it's been too tight for a long time & the alternator bearings are beginning to suffer...

 

i just installed the belt...the car hasnt even been driven on the road cuz im afraid of recharging system failure.....

 

i tried this on b series 4 alternators on my 1 car......and they all make noise...so i think its cuz its too tight......how do you check it its recharging...which wires do i test

 

read the manual, think you put them too tight, with the car running check voltage to the battery; it should be around 14.4 if im not mistaken
