ok so i read a thread here on hondatech a long long time ago about an air conditioning setup that was powerd via 12volt outlet, i believe it looked like a cooler,
now i have looked and looked and found something similar to what i remember,
BUT they all use ice, i thought the one i read about didnt use anything else, just plug it in and go, maybe im wrong?
maybe its out there and i havnt found it yet has anyone used one of these units or knew anyone that has?
every now and then i wish i had one, i know i could just put my ac back on, but thats gay..lol
my engine bay looks better with out it, and thats the most important thing in the world, next to sex anyway...
lol so any input is greatly appreciated

The problem presented here is that physics are against you. We can easily generate heat, but not cold.
The only type of electric cooling that doesn't require fluid like an AC system, would be a peltier based setup, which is an electric heat pump.
Amusingly, I have a USB powered single soda/beer can cooler sitting on my desk here at work.
The problem with them is the same as any other form of active cooling, that they generate a lot of heat that must then be dispersed. My can cooler has a large heat sink on the outside and a fan to blow air across it. So, it heats the outside to chill the inside, much like a refrigerator. You're not going to be able to easily use such a cooling method to cool a car.
Just put the damn AC back on. It doesn't look bad in an engine bay. It looks purposeful, because it is.

lol i know i know, i just dont have all the pieces for it and being broke doesnt help find the parts, but i guess your completely right, but hey a guy can dream cant he?
actually i did dream my four door had ac, it was the best dream ever to bad i woke up..lol and it doesnt look bad, but its the only halfass decent excuse for not saving up for it..lol thanks for the explanation man

Very good info
Couldn't have said that better myself. When I was a late teenager I thought A/C was gay looking in the engine bay so I took it all out..suffered A LOT of summers, then finally grew up, put my A/C back in and enjoy a freezing cold car on 100degree days. I love my A/C and won't have another car without it.
I also want to be cool without a standard A/C system. I,m planning on using cool suit technology. The small tubes will be attached to the seats and a radiator will be put up front with a 12 volt pump. Its a crazy idea but I hate having A/C problems.
You can mod your rear deck, put the electric AC in the trunk, vent the cold air into the rear deck between the speakers and you will have some kind of cooling, what do you think.
You are pumping cold air in, you need to vent the hot air out since this system is not a heat exchange system. Leaving a window cracked may produce to much noise but if you crank up the stereo, no worries.
