im got a radar detecter and no cig lighter...how would i wire detecter to a switch..do i just cut off the cig plug and run the wires just like any other appliance

 

Yes, open up the plug and check what the fuse is rated too, and use one the same size.

 

make sure you run it for an accessory.....oh and keep in mind that you won't be able to disconnect the dectector when police pull you over.

 

anyone got a diagram...i kinda forget how to set that up...
are they illegal in Ny does anyone know??

Not illegal in CA. Cut the plug. Stripp both wires. On the fuse box, there is an ignition power output. Place a wire with an inline fuse from there to the power side of the radar detector. Run the ground wire to the switch and from there to ground.

You can put the switch on the power side if you want, but amps will not flow through it on the ground side.
