to all wiring gods.
Ive got a 96 ek hatch
when the car is running and the lights are not on ,when i press the brake the front side lights come on and my dash lights/heater lights come on and the clock goes dull.
when the headlights are on and i brake there fine BUT the brake lights stay on all the time untill i press the brake then the spoiler brake light gets brighter and the rear lights go off lol
any one got a clue, ive changed all the bulbs and checked all the fuses ????

I agree, it sounds like a grounding problem.
When one circuit, [brake lights] has an effect on another unrelated circuit, [dash lights] it is almost always a grounding issue.
It is unlikely a ground has broken but they can get loose and/or oxidize.94

sorted , turned out the nice guy i bought the car off had use glue to stick the brake light bulb in, but thats not the last ,i took the boot panle off and all the wiring was all messed up ,so i got the multy meter out and got to work .
works fine now
