Default all the intake valves hit the pistons

ok recently i was driving and still in the "break in" period for a rebuilt Mini-me. I was going up a hill and gave it a little more gas then usaul taking the RPM up to about 4 1/2 to 5 grand. Then I heard this noise and the car shut off. I took the head off and notices that ALL the intake valves hit every piston and bent the intake valves...and my timing was off like CRAZY. What happened first...timing went off causing the valves to hit the piston or valves hit the piston which through the timing off??

Maybe timing beltwasnttight enough, skippeda couple of notches then the valves hit.

Is ita VTEC? did you hit VTEC when it happened as you know it gives the valves more lift and if youve got a setof high lift cams then maybe the timing belt slipped or was already off and everything went pearshaped then ?

most likely the valves hit the piston due to the timing set incorrectly or the belt slipped

I do not have the vtec hooked up to the controller at the time. I know that the valves are bent because the shiney ring around the valves that i took out had a dark spot on them. Showing that air was passing through. The piston is nicked very very little. I replaced the valves and im ready to put the head back on. Now the timing belt that i used was tight when i put the motor together. When all this happened i set the timing back to normal and the belt was loose on one side but it was not like that before. Could this be a result of a bad tensioner??
