Default all electrical power gone

driving down the road....
1)battery light on dash came on.
2)radio and cigarette lighter eventually cut off.
3)popped the hood, checked all the fuses, and all fuses under dash.
4)kept engine running and disconnected negative on battery, engine shut off.
5)eventually dash clock, lights, and gauge cluster cut off.
6)car sputters and dies.
7)car has a 4 month old optima yellow top.

all signs lead me to believe that i need a new alternator.

QUESTION is just wondering if i missed anything to check, and, if there are, what else could cause this.

just want to make sure i checked everything and am 100% sure before i spend money on a new alternator and change it out.

Yeah sounds like textbook alternator failure symptoms.Still its always best to get a good hot battery and test it / visually inspect belt/mounting,etc. Poor connection at battery or its ground could also cause this. I know it probably is an alternator, but passing by the basics can waste time/ money.
