airbag
Anyone know how to disable driver side airbag on 05 accord. Mine was recalled and it will be awhile before they get the parts. Don't want my teenage daughter driving around with this potential problem. Thanks

Re: airbag
You could unplug it. I'm sure the harness runs under the steering column. The plastic behind the wheel is normally held in wiht a few screws and clipped together. Undo all that and look for yellow wires and clips. SRS components are designated by yellow wires and clips.
You will have an air bag light on at all times, plus I'm not sure how this will effect you insurance wise in the case of an accident.
Edit: If you are going to do this make sure you disconnect the battery and do not touch anything for a good 5-10min. The bag could still go off even with the battery removed if you mess with it to soon.

Re: airbag
Yep. If there is a fault code the whole system should be disabled. This was the case years ago when I worked on cars for a living, someone feel free to correct me if that is no longer the case.
OP, you may want to wait on the details of the recall before you pass judgement and start disconnecting airbags. The chances of you actually having one of these faulty devices is tiny, much smaller than the chance of your daughter getting in an accident where the (most likely not defective) airbag could save her life.

Re: airbag
I'm actually about to make a FS post that will help you. You can just unpin the two wires on the SRS harbness that go to the DS airbag and replace it with a 2.2Ohm .25W resistor This will trick the SRS system into thinking the airbag is still there. You will retain cruise, horn, and all other stering wheel functions as well as all the other airbags will remain functional.
I have 25 of the resistors and I'm selling em for $1.50 shipped. You could also just pull the fuse but that will disable all airbags and throw an SRS light. Simply unplugging the airbag will also disable the horn and cruise control.
