advanced timing and octane
Hello. I have a 93 civic d15b7 that I just rebuilt. I want to get the best gas mileage possible. I only drive in low rpms, 2000-3000 rpms. So I have seen that at lower rpms it is best for ignition timing to be advanced. Now my question is, if I advenced the timing and have good compression should I use higher octane gas? I live in mexico, there are only two kinds of gasoline, 87 octane and 92 octane. I want to be getting best results for best burning and not costing too much.
Right now I am using the 87 octane and it is a little advanced, I can feel the difference in it not vibrating as much and accelerating more smooth. I dont hear any pinging or knocks, but I might be mistaking.
How can I tell if it is knocking or pinging?
and What is best octane config for my engine with advanced timing, using only low rpms?
