ACT vs. Clutchmaster
Im looking for a new clutch for my B18 motor and im not sure which clutch is better performing and long lasting. My plans for future are turbo with 2L built block so i was wondering if i should go with a clutchmaster stage 4 or ACT XTSS clutch?? im having trouble decing which holds power better and last longer. thanx
not a clutch expert by any means but from what I heard while doing research for my new clutch is that ACT can be pretty hard on the driveline, while Clutchmasters has an easier engagement. Even at stage 3 it still has decent pedal feel.
About pedal feel, on my act there is some but you get use to it. I have talked to many people that still have the stock clutch, and they all wish there clutch pedal felt like mine.
I bought an ACT Street disc for car and it feels real great. I'm still breaking it in, so I haven't had a chance to launch with it. I've heard bad things about both clutches though, so I chose closed my eyes and pointed...
i have a clutchmasters stage 5 in my car. it feels like a stock gsr clutch, unlike ACT which has a lot of pressure while pressing the pedal down. Clutchmasters won't give you a bigger left calf than your right calf. go get a clutchmasters stage 3 or 4.

I had a clutchmasters clutch, it shattered on me after 50k miles and saw little abuse. Now i have ACT clutch, it grabs really good and no chatter. the clutchmaster had alot of chatter and didn't grab as well as the ACT.

So if i go with a ACT street disk with xtreme pressure plate it would hold the power from a turbo motor and not give my left leg a workout everytime i drive?
im thinking about going clutchmaster stage3... ACT seems to be well known, but i dont hear alot of things about clutchmasters....
the carbon kevlar friction material seems pretty cool.
Does anyone have problems with chatter w/ the clutchmasters stage3?

i have stage 4 on my ls/vtec, and i love it!! been using it since last summer.. great clutch, pedal has great stock like feeling, you can make it grab like stock if your easy on the clutch but when you get on it, it grabs so hard it has enough power to snap your tranny/axles in half.. i do however got sum chatter.. or is it really my wheels chirping everytime i change gear =o)
I've seen nothing but problems with the few CM clutches that I've worked with... I am all about ACT or Tilton but my one friend wanted to try a Clutchmaster when I swapped his B18C into his EK about a year ago... It started slipping, etc after only 6 months... Never had a problem like that with an ACT Clutch... I used to love the Xtreme and Maxx Xtreme PP but for most all motor cars it isn't needed... It's just extra stress on your thrust washers... For a 2.0L boosted motor I would stick with atleast Xtreme PP... A few of my friend's boosted motors have been able to even make the Maxx Xtreme PP slip... 2.0L B18C on 22lbs. making 506whp in a daily driven EK on street tires was slipping... Now all we use for those motors are Tilton... They seem to hold down the power a lot better... Only thing is ~$1200 for a clutch is kinda spendy... Oh well, you should be fine with ACT, how much are ya planning on boosting??? Peace
Allright guys thanx a lot for the info and help. Over all i think most ppl are leaning towards the ACT side. I think im goin to go with the xtreme PP and get a 6 puck disc as the street disk would not be able to handle power of boost. Also i plan on boosting about 20 psi on the 2L block.

ACT has been the choice of our shop and its clients for awhile. I dont think you can go wrong with either company though. Both well made products. All I can say is that ACT has proven itself to us and our clients.
