I've got a D15B in my 91 Civic hatch and I'm in the process of doing the mini-me head swap with a D16Y8 head. While I'm in there I installed a set of ARP rod bolts, so I am replacing my rod and main bearings as well. I had the rods resized after having the arps installed (they were sized back to factory specs), but no machine work has been done to the crank or block. It's still in the car.
My question is I plastigaged everything before taking it all apart and got .0015" across the board (mains and rods), I then looked at the OEM colors I would need and came up with Blacks for all four rods and 3 browns, 1 black, and 1 green for the mains. I know the ACL bearing are close to the Green size OEM bearing, so I'm wondering can I use the ACLs or should I just get the correct size OEMs since I'm a bit on the looser side of the size chart?
I have read some people say that if I had Yellow, Green, or Brown colors then the ACLs should work great, but since I have blacks should I just run with the OEMs? My problem is the price. I am getting a deal through a buddy at Honda, but the ACLs are still more than half the price of the OEMs!!!!
Please any input would be great. I'm just on the fence with this one.
