Default Accord Transmission Problem

I have a stock 98 Accord V6 automatic with 87,000 miles. The transmission is banging after slipping horribly before a shift. Even when I stop it takes a few seconds before it jerks back into 1st. The thing is that I live in Florida and this is only happening during the day when the sun is out. At night, it shifts like a brand new car with none of these symptoms. One mechanic who looked at it said I will need a brand new transmission, which I was shocked at because I really it would just need new AT fluid because of it working fine in cooler weather. If I could get any thoughts to confirm or deny this I would really appreciate this, becasue right now I am looking at about $3,500 just for the tranny and shipping. Thanks.
