? about extra thick head gaskets
Is there any adverse affects of running an extra thick Cometic head gasket, say 0.078" thick? I have to run that thickness to get my compression ratio back down to 12:1. I am using ARP studs also. Thanks.
Valve clearance won't be an issue, cam timing will be changed, and compression will be lowered. Other than that, nothing else will happen.
If you plan on lowering compression and still at a high CR, you will definitely want to make sure there is no detonation problems, otherwise the headgasket will blow much easier being thicker.

thicker head gaskets can make hot spots and make your motor more prone to leaks. i would stick with stock and just tune the heck out of it to keep it safer. turbo guys would know about the hot spots with thicker or stacked head gaskets.
Very ture, thick head gaskets will get hotter easier, but they also dissipate heat easier, if there is not heat being added to the equation of course. The point being that they can hold for daily driving and short bursts, but under heavy constant load, they will build up heat and start to deteriorate, then they will crack, then they will need to be replaced.

I thought a thicker cometic headgasket would solve my problem, but then I ended up with a cracked sleeve. Im not blaming it on the headgasket, but for some reason, i like the OEM quality much bettter. The cometic looks cheap to my eyes.
