97 CRV Auto AWD Stalling While In Gear?
This is likely cross-posted in a couple threads and other sites trying to cast a wider net...
I've had intermittent issues with this and can't seem to pinpoint the root cause. It's a 1997 CRV automatic, AWD. JDM B20 motor swapped and ran for about 5-10k miles before the transmission crapped out around 100k miles on the chassis. It sat for years in a yard until I got it. Swapped the transmission, head/valve gaskets and piston rings, and fuel pump and it was running pretty reliable for about a year.
The issue is intermittent stalling of the vehicle while in gear (Automatic). You can't 'give it more gas' as pushing the pedal does AT MOST stables the RPMs from continuing to drop/stall, but absolutely no power is gained at all. Putting in Neutral does not save from stalling. The only thing that works is letting it completely stall, and then restarting. After a restart, is usually fine for at least 10 mins/miles. Trips have not been long to really know if it comes back during same trip or not.
Things that have been replaced:
Replaced distributor and that seemed to cut it back to maybe once every 2-3 months or so. So I never really fixed the problem, but it was less prevalent, as well as the car would start right back up, so just dealt with it.
Now, about 2 years later, it has gotten common again. Maybe once a trip or every other trip or so. Would like to figure out what this is and solve it once and for all. I just pulled the pump again and it looks fine. The strainer is clean, and attached.
My next steps were to see if I had a warranty on the distributor, maybe replace the fuel filter canister, but I'd be at a loss after that, if the problem still persists. So wondering if anyone else has experience with this issue and has found a fix.
TIA!
