Default 96 Civic D16y7 mod.

Hi guys. New here and to the the Honda world. I am here bc I am inheriting my grandmother's low milage 1996 Civic LX with the D16Y7. I've been keeping this going for her over the years as it mostly sits bc she has been to elderly to drive. As ya'll know from post I've read, this thing doesn't want to get out of it's own way. I have a 600+hp Trans Am and a Durmax desiel truck with all the torque, so I am use to something moving out once I put my foot in it. I was wondering on best, yet most reliable ways to get a bit of pep out of that slow Civic or if it is even worth it. I've looked into the cheap turbo kits and all, but how dependable are they? How well would that transmission hold up if I added any power? I would like to maintain the fuel efficiency, dependability, and reliability. I am not building a race car just make it a little more fun and where I can pull out in traffic without being scared to get run over. Thanks guys.
