Default 95 Civic question on Tail lights

Buddy of mine called and let me know his tail lights on his 95 are sticking on. Even with the car off.. no key in the ignition, lights off and the tail lights are blazing like the brake is pushed down.

I've had him pull up on the brake just to see if it was somehow stuck down, but since I am not near the car I can't do too much checking from here.

My question is, off the top of my head I don't know, is there a sensor or contact switch up near the top of the brake lever that kicks in when you push down or is it wired in some place else?

Please let me know as soon as you can guys!

Thanks

There should be a switch right at the brake pedal. It's up near the pivot, sometimes it's difficult to reach. If it came loose from it's bracket or something, then the pedal won't press the switch to turn off the brake lights.

Is the car manual or auto? An easy way to test the auto is: Try to go from P to R without pressing the brake, if it goes, then the brake light switch is stuck down. If it's manual, then he's gotta get under there and unplug it to see if they'll go off.

Sounds like a grounded wire to me though.

Thanks man.. took me a bit to get back and thank ya.. but we figured it out. It was that sensor. I have never looked for it before.. and so I wasn't even sure originally it was a sensor under dash.. or just a computer sensor in the brake booster or else where.
