Default 95 civic dx (hatchback) how do i get a tachometer

hey guys i reciently bought a 1995 dx hatch 5 spd, and it dosnt have a tach, ive yet to understand why car manufactures make a manual car without a tach, but how could i get one installed? also my speedometer stoped working along with the milage odometer, the previous owner said it happened a week or so ago and it was due to a sensor? but today i notced that the needle was below the little notch that it rests at when the car is off or not moving... how would the machanic get the needle back on the right side of that little notch(above the notch)? cause the needle kind-of rises when im driving (but cant go past the notch). when the sensor is replaced will the needle flip back over and be ontop of the notch again? also is there a seperate cause that is making the odometer not work ( it does sometimes kick on and start ticking mileage).

thanks for all your help.

there is a speed sensor that goes into the transmission. It may be broken or popped out. As for the heedle it is fairly easy to take the cluster out and apart you should be able to pop the needle off and put it back on top. As for Tach unless you go with an aftermarket you will need another cluster that has the tach in it

okay, so would i be able to fix the sensor myself? and do you know what the name of the sesor is? does the one sensor control both speed and mileage? also if you fix the sensor the needle still needs to be popped off and put back on again over the notch?---i was hoping when the sensor got fixed the needle would fly back the right way ?

also on a side note what type of engine comes in my car stock? thanks

Look for a used 92-95 Civic gauge cluster with a factory tach. You want the whole gauge cluster with all the gauges in it. Like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1 If you have a manual trans get one for a manual, if you have an auto get one for an auto. Once you get it remove yours, install the new cluster and you will have a working OE tach. As a bonus you will also have a working speedometer as well. This is a really easy swap and well worth the money imo.

95 DX Civics came with D15B7s in them (single overhead cam 1.5L)

how do i get the old cluster out and the new one in? are there screws some where in the dash or do i just carefully pry everything apart ? oh and how many sensors control speed/milage or does one sensor control both? and what is that sensor called and how do i install it. cause i need to fix that before putting the new cluster in.

Here is a write-up on how to swap the cluster: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=661308 (ignore the extra steps, he's replacing the bulb, you just want to swap the cluster out). As far as the speedo not working, it is most likely the gauge itself that's faulty. Replacing the whole cluster should solve the problem. If wouldn't start replacing other pieces until you know.

that is an awesome write up, i didnt know it was that simple thanks so much! one more question, how do i fix the sensor that is randomly working and then not working. id love to save money and just install the sensor myself if its easy enough, so if anyone knows what sensor(s) it is that controls the dash please let me know cause i need to fix mine ASAP. thanks
