'95 Accord Fans and speedometer problems
I have two problems with my accord that just baffle me. I'm not a car guy but i would like to fix this myself rather than pay to get it fixed. First off i have a '95 Accord Ex.
The first problem i'm having is the fans don't kick in and the car overheats. I checked the fuses and the one for the fans was blown. I replaced it and shortly after it was blown again. Do i need to replace the fans or can i pull them out and do some sort of easy fix?
Problem number two is a little more confusing to me. I figure it's an electrical connection somewhere but i don't know where since i'm not very familiar with wiring in vehicles of any type. Most of the time my speedometer doesn't work but on occasion it does. I'm not 100% sure but it seems to work sometimes when it's either warm out or i've been running the heater. Even in those conditions it mostly doesn't work. Of coarse i'm not registering any mileage on my car right now so i would like to get this done. The needle just sits at 20 mph.
On a side note the backlight for the heater temp and fan speed doesn't light up half the time and if i turn the dial it shuts off the backlight. I can get it to turn on if i hit it sometimes. Please let me know if anyone has a do it yourself fix. It would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!!

If they are DIY will depend on your skill level and the tools you have.
Without having wire schematics for your car I will be guessing at things.
First, the rad fan, if the fuse blows it is because it is overloaded, either because of a short or damaged fan motor.
You said fans so I assume you have A/C, or is it just two rad fans?
You also say if you replace the blown fuse, "shortly after it was blown again", how long is "shortly after", seconds, minutes, hours or days?
Does engine need to be running?
Does ign. even have to be on?
If fuse does not blow unless engine is running, replace fuse and start engine and let it warm up, keep an eye on rad fan, if fuse blows the instant the rad fan turns on, [engine temp. over 190 degrees F] replace the rad fan. 94

What fuse is it that keeps popping?
There is only one radiator fan. It is the one with the larger fan shroud on the passenger side of the Rad. The smaller shroud fan is the A/C condenser fan. It will only come on if the A/C is turned on.
Have you actually witnessed both fans turn on? If they do I would say that 1. You have a DIY rad fan wiring job or 2. Your fan control relay might be fried. Do you know of any previous issues with the A/C or cooling fan wiring?

There is a "correlation" between the two, in most Honda/Acura with A/C there is a rad fan and a condenser and in most Honda/Acura if engine needs cooling, [engine coolant temp. above 190 degrees F] the rad fan will come on, on the other hand if you have the A/C on, [and it's working] and head pressure goes up the condenser fan and the rad fan will turn on, controlled by the "Radiator Fan Control Module".
It is possible that on a 95 Accord both fans turn on if either engine temp. or A/C head pressure is up.
What I would do now is unplug one of the fans at a time and see if the fuse still blows, if it does so with only one of the fans, replace that fan. 94

easy fix install a relay to take the load off of that fuse i mean it is so simple that u can instal 2 relay 1 to turn on rad fan when the signal is sent and 1 2 turn both on when a/c signal is sent all from where the wire harness plugs into the fan conector hell i had both of my fans modified to come on at once on my eclispe
