Hey bro, I had the same problem with my hatch... It sounds like the ignitor inside the distributor. It's what keeps the car running.... it kept dying out on me when I went into stores, but got even worse and would just die out when I was on US1, so I just replaced it. No problems since.

when you are trying to start it and doesn't turn over, is the flywheel turning?

sounds like a faulty starter solenoid but hard to tell.

need to find out whether it's spark, fuel delivery or turning of the flywheel.

it wants to turn over, but by putting up a metal screwdriver to the plug wire u get no sparll/arc so its probbaly a problem in the distributor

not the starter, i know those problems

damn no spark huh.

stick a screw driver in the spark plug wire and put that about 3 mm from the radiator support and try cranking it.

it's not going to spark with just a screw driver or just the spark plug in there because it's not grounded.

could be the ICM, make sure your dist rotor is securely in there and turning when cranking as well

I have a problem that is somewhat similar-
I'll run the car for a while, turn it off and go inside and come back out to go somewhere again. When I start the car, it starts, revs up to about 2500 then as the idle starts the settle the car dies and won't turn over for about 3-5 min. I first though fuel was a problem, but pressure was there, and fuel pump was fine. I'm going to check ignition next but if anybody knows off the top of their head that would be great.

ICM = ignition control module. it's a little tiny box inside your distributor.

You will have no spark holding up the Spark plug wire with something in there (whether it's a plug or anything because there is no ground).

Get a flat head/philips screw driver, and stick it inside the spark plug wire, then put it about 3 mm to the radiator support and have it cranked to see if you have spark.

That's the best way to go about seeing if you have spark.
