The car starts fine and idles at 2k rpms. Once the engine is warmed up it fluctuates rapidly between 1k and 2k rpms. There is a small wire coming from the distributor that is stripped and we are going to get it replaced. There are also no check engine lights coming on when this happens. I've done a search and wasn't able to find anything that sounded familiar.

could be some kind of vacuum leak...check all the gaskets.

 

Actually we just swapped the engine with an identical one. The issue followed to the new engine. The reason for the engine swap was the old engine was knocking. All the gaskets are new. The intake is the same. Could it be an issue with the intake?

 

so often i've read posts of idle problems following a swap. Then they post again and say the problem fixed itself. Same sort of thing following my swap. My theory is that the gaskets etc. just need heat and time to properly seal. If you're sure you hooked everything up right, let me know if it smoothed itself out. Wondering if my theiry is right.

Thats not a bad theory but my problem is that this issue has followed engines. The car hasn't ran much so maybe we'll be lucky and it will work itself out. Any other ideas would still be much appriciated!
