700 just to put the pistons in??? what all are they doing for this 700?

i had to replace rod bearings in the ZC im using so i pulled the pistons out and putting them BACK in was cake...

now machining would get costly

I would assume piston install means take the old ones out, put new pistons and rings on, clean the inside of the walls, rebalance, and reassemble.

I tore up to rod bearings and a two mains so I had the cylinders, crank, rods, journals machined. Everything was machined, new rings, bearings and balancing.

That's a little much. I went to a local machine shop that did all my work except for blueprinting; here are the costs.

Pressed pistons on rods and balanced both:$60
Bored block was about $50(i'm not 100% on that)
crank was balanced and micropolished for $80

Assembly and blueprinting was done by H-T member MIDNIGHT. IM him for any work that you might want done. He has some of the best prices around and excellent work.

The machine shop is local and is KNOWN for its work with numerous funny cars and other drag cars. They do top notch work at a rerasonable price.

well, when you ad disassembly, cleaning, new bearings, new seals, hone or bore, pressing of wristpins, rings, and then assembly, i could see how it could come to 700.

I was quoted to install pistons and rods and you bring them the block was $200 at sfp 5 months ago. Nothing else just putting in the pistons and rods...that is all.

I'm getting mine done at a loal machine shop for $452
$25 to press the piston & rods
$32 to hone the block
$20 to mic & polish the crank
$75 to wash the everything
$150 to balance
$150 to assemble everything

Only thing was I had already pulled the old piston and rods out of the block so I'm actually saving the guy some time/labor. Hope that helps.
BTW I'm replacing the stock pistons & rods.

Looking to do the same, but looking to try new avenues. That sounds like a good price. I did the same thing you did JunCivic Hatch (took out old pistons from block). If you can, hit me up with the location of this machine shop. Thanks.
