3 Angle valve's
Hi, on a b18c turbo im getting some headwork done and i have an option of an 3 angle valve job. Now the thing is the machinist says that he can do a 30 deg cut , 45 deg cut and as for 60 deg cut he cant manage it with the equipment he has and it will involve sending of the valves. I havent got the time for that so could i get away with a 50 deg cut instead.
Will i make any gain from this? My only worry is that is doesnt restrict.
Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

This is a real touchy subject that requires alot of analytical thinking. You can't really say it will or it wont do to the lack of a flow bench. The valve job is also affected by the port design and the port flow also is regulated by the valve job and valve itself. If he is using a surtie cutter I cant understand why he would be able to put a 50 down and not a 60 because of the machine? He obviously does not want to order a cutter. Now in my own opinion I wouldn't go any wider than 57 on a 45 seat. On the exhaust I personally wouldn't go any smaller than a 63 bottom cut on a 45 seat. So you really need to find someone who can do this for you. Another note to the side..that valve job he quoted you is a stock valve job. If your trying to move some air find a shop with a flow bench that can tune your ports.

Thanks </TD></TR></TABLE>a 50 deg seat will most likely hurt flow and wont last on the street. The valve job your machinist recommended is a standard valve job yes,but somethings are hard to beat in alot of cases, that's why they became the standard. It's not the best but it will work very well if the angle widths are correct.
