I have a 2014 Civic. Bought it about a month ago. Rebuilt title. It was hit on passenger side mostly front. I knew the compressor pulley had a bearing going down because of this. Bought clutch kit and the compressor housing is broke where the c clip sits to hold the pulley. I really don’t want to buy another compressor if I don’t have to. It worked fine. But I’ll do whatever I need to. Prices are all over the place. Not sure how I feel about rebuilt ones. Anyways, is it possible (or feasible) to replace the front housing cover? I was thinking about buying a used compressor off eBay (they are around $60) and putting that front housing cover on mine since I know it works well. Is this a good idea? Should I buy another. Any options I’m not thinking of? Thanks for the help.
Mmmm that's tricky. On one hand an OEM compressor is probably the best compressor but swapping covers introduces some unknowns like clearances and contamination and leaks.
Potentially saving a little up front for a repair that might work vs buying a new compressor and being done.
What's your time worth? Is it worth potentially doing the job two or three times and eventually buying a new compressor anyway?
I would probably buy a new compressor and be done.
